The New Captain America/Iron Man Slashy Moments List

In for the last two years, this list has been maintained by the totally awesome [info]crimsonquills (original here, with reposts here and here). Ze has, however, migrated to another fandom, leaving the comm. I have volunteered to maintain it from here on in.

As with the last update, the list is in chronological order with the moment numbers indicating the order added. New or amended moments are be marked with a star (). The star will stick around for two updates (the update in which the moment first appears, and the one after that) before being removed.

I remain convinced that there are piles of slashy moments in canon that aren't on this list (I spent an hour reading classic Avengers and found moments 95-97). If you spot one (or a correction or amendment to existing moment), drop a comment, and I'll look after it.

Sorry for spamming your flists so soon after the last repost, but hey, look how many moments we have!

I need to read Ults and find more moments. I hear they're there, but haven't ventured in yet.

101! WOOHOO! For once, the telescoping timeline works for us. They must have been doing nothing but flirting to fit all these in.

Last time Tony made Steve a new shield, he tried it out in the training room. I have no idea why he immagined the living room was a good idea.

It's kind of borderline on the slashy, but Tony did put a lot of his company resources into making the thing, and it sets up moment #100 really well.

The floating "what a man!" thought bubble in Avengers #214 kills me every time. It's so classically "enthusiastic appreciation of male hotness" in tone that I'm tempted to ascribe it to Tigra (since she's the only person present who could be admiring Steve's hotness in a heterosexual way), but the only person doing an inner monologue in that panel is Tony, and it does seem to logically follow his "Oh, Steve! You put us all to shame! *swoon* *sigh*" thoughts.

Avengers Annual #1: Tony can't stop thinking about how wonderful Steve is. (I think this goes between moments 25 and 54, chronologically.)

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Tony has the most epic crush in the history of the world.

Would Tony Stark limp and lifeless in his kidnapper's arms and Cap leading the interception squad count? The other Avengers are there, but Cap's shield in that panel personally made me gleeful <3 (It's in Avengers #69)
Also, the people making this comic apparently have one hell of a kink for Tony Stark limp and lifeless in someone's arms. They're not that different from the Fandom that way.

From the same issue: Thor and Steve rushing to Tony's hospital bed
And from the next: sure, we'll save the world, but release Tony Stark first
(not sure if they count, since that's the sort of thing they do for everyone, but hey.)

I nominate a total married moment from Spider-Man: The Other! Weird things are happening around Peter. Tony wants to run tests, Cap agrees with Tony, Peter is Not Surprised.

Whoops, meant to add that it's from Marvel Knights Spider-Man #22. Though that entire arc is love, minus the creepy-beating-on-Peter bits. And I adore the art in Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Also from Invincible Iron man 26: Steve sends Tony his old armors. (good thing, because transport couldn't have been cheap)

[info]pindrops

June 19 2010, 21:39:58 UTC 1 year ago

These are all from Execute program, just before Civil War.

Steve and Tony have an arguments over methods. Staring ensues. That's Invincible Iron Man 9, then in the next issue Steve stops Tony from overusing his blast and Tony nearly chokes him. Unconfortable staring in different directions ensue.

Then more stuff happens, generally bad. And then Tony dyes his hair blond.

Tony is calm until he sees Steve in danger. The solution (again) is to stop his heart to save Cap. (these last three from Invincible Iron Man 12)

All pre-Nomad (barely):
Avengers v.1 #125: Cap's cleared of murder charges and Iron Man can't stop touching him.
Avengers v.1 #126: When Thor gets upset about Cap's brooding, Iron Man tells him that Cap's been hurt worse than the whole country.
Giant-Size Avengers #1: The earliest hug-and-fly?. (This is immediately after Avengers #126.)

Post-Nomad (Finally!!):
Avengers v.1 #131: Tony thinks Steve's new Nomad costume looks great. (*still snickering at said costume*)

Oh, Christ, that costume. It's one of the many reasons that I pretend that 85% of Englhart didn't happen.

Probably not for this list, but I had to share these due to the cuteness anyway.
The Super Hero Squad Show, episode 16: Tales of Suspense: When Iron Man is framed, Cap asks him to step down from the team (with lots of touching and Meaningful Looks). One Two Three Four

And back to our regularly-scheduled comics:
Avengers Annual v.1 #6 (immediately following Avengers v.1 #153): The Avengers and all of L.A. could be blown to bits, but Iron Man only worries about Cap.
Avengers v.1 #157 (cover): Even when defeated, Cap and Iron Man cuddle are side-by-side.

A correction: Moment #66 - the first scan is from Ultimatum #1, but the other three are from #2.
Ultimatum #3: When Cap's in the hospital, Tony stays with him the entire time.

Both of these are pre-"Demon in a Bottle":
Captain America v.1 #218: Iron Man's not a therapist, but he's always willing to listen when Cap needs him.
Captain America v.1 #224: Iron Man knows Steve's face better than Steve does.
Also - according to published dates, Cap #238 was the last one published before "DiaB" (#239 was the same month), so does moment #6 need to be moved slightly? O.o
Avengers v.1 #171: What personal space? (Even Wanda and Vizh aren't standing that close together.)
Avengers v.1 #171: Cap reassures Iron Man about his judgment (even though he just questioned it on the previous page).
Avengers v.1 #181 (cover): Cap holds Iron Man back from Gyrich... by hugging him. (Worthy of note: The only other people touching on this cover are the two married couples.)
Avengers v.1 #182: Cap can do anything. Just ask Iron Man.
Iron Man v.1 #125: Tony understands when Cap takes over leading the Avengers.
Iron Man v.1 #125: Tony turns to Steve for self-defense lessons. Cap believes him when he says that he plays a lot of tennis. Really.

Post-"Demon in a Bottle":
Avengers v.1 #193: Any excuse to hold hands. (No matter how painful that must be...)

A Civil War moment (I'm guessing it goes after moment #55 but before Casualties of War):
Black Panther #18 (cover): It's T'Challa and Storm's wedding, but all eyes are on Iron Man and Captain America.
Black Panther #18: An unexpected meeting brings debate and long, meaningful Looks. One Two

Avengers & Power Pack Assemble #1: Steve's always willing to help a close friend, even if he's across the country. One Two
(I guess the 616 area? It was published in 2006.)

Wow, I hit the comment length limit. XD

Avengers v.1 #197: When Iron Man steps down as team leader, Steve's afraid it's because of him.

New Avengers v.2 #2: The Avengers all thought Cap's "Rick/Bucky thing" was weird, but Tony understood. And can I just say that the Oral History of the Avengers is a brilliant thing? XD

I know you're waiting on Avengers: Prime stuff, but let me just nominate the cover of #2 while I'm thinking about it: In which staring longingly isn't enough for Tony - he can't stop himself from reaching for Steve, too. (This issue? Good lord, the subtext is barely sub. LOL.)

Avengers: The Origin, #5: When Iron Man thinks about the future, Cap's one of the first people he envisions. (Absolutely gorgeous artwork on this mini, btw.)

And more odd little things. (I'm working my way through the main series again, but I had to wander off and poke at the interesting little minis they've done, for a while. :)
Avengers Fairy Tales #1: If the Captain doesn't plan it, it's not fun.
Avengers Fairy Tales #4: The Tin Man is the one who asks the Cowardly Lion to join the journey... and when can Cap ever turn him down? (Also? This mini... beautiful, beautiful artwork.)

96. Steve has missed Iron Man's pet names for him. Avengers v1 #144 [Scan]

Does anyone notice how they're leaving the hot chick behind in there need to catch-up?

Later in the same issue, hot chick is changing into costume (that's Firecat), and they're looking the other way still bantering.

I just... is it natural to have giant posters of a 'good friend' hung up in your 'dream project' which you spend four years working on and [plan to live in]? - New Avengers v1 #3

And I also wonder where Tony is [also looking]... - New Avengers v1 #4

[info]penumbren

August 22 2010, 03:20:51 UTC 1 year ago

Very nice view indeed, Tony. XD (Worth noting is that Tony has huge posters/pics/paintings up of all of the Avengers in all of his homes... especially Cap. Especially large ones of just Cap. *g*)

I'm very slowly making my way through the silver age comics -- is there a particular issue where Cap finds out that Iron Man = Tony Stark? #79 made me wibble, with Tony trying to tell Steve and Steve not letting him.

That would be Avengers Vol1 #215-216. Red thong aside, it wasn't especially slashy. And yes, Steve was in the dark for something like four and a half years comic time.

Can someone tell me how to make single .jps from a .cbr file? There's a cute page of Steve and Tony randomly sparring (in the middle of the hallway!) from issue 3 of the new MA Super Heroes series.

[info]muccamukk

December 15 2010, 06:58:13 UTC 1 year ago

I use the snipping tool on Windows 7.

Failing that, change the suffix from cbr to rar, unpack the file, and you should have all the pages as jpgs
